For anyone that’s read my writing over the years, you know that I can be a bit of a controversial character. After the AFL incorporated free substitutions, I took one of the harshest stands against it in the media. As you can imagine, I endured plenty of feedback, many positive, but plenty of negatives as well.
Amongst dozens of feedbacks, I got one from a woman who signed her email as “MamaCat.” We exchanged emails quite a bit that season, and I got to know her by her real name, Shelly Grieb. I’ll never forget the first time she revealed her identity to me. I responded by saying something along the lines of, “YOU’RE the mother of Mark Freaking Grieb???”
